PLACES TO DINE
Le Mas Des Herbes Blanches
La Petite Maison
Le Vivier
A great and very modern restaurant next to the river. The entrance, through a rather nondescript residential area, is a bit off-putting, but once you get inside the restaurant, it’s all well worth-while. 1 Star Michelin, with great service!
Le Mas de Tourteron
Auberge De La Bartavelle
A hidden treasure, off the beaten track, in the beautiful village of Goult. Very few tables so booking well in advance is essential. The menu is relatively small, but always delicious. Service is attentive and they speak English. Good wine list. Only for dinner.
Le Fournil
Le Fournil is a chic restaurant built into the side of the rock in Bonnieux. It’s a great setting, especially outside in the summer where you can eat on the beautiful terrace surrounded by trees and an old stone fountain. The food is modern, mixing Provence with outside influences.
Le Jardin Du Quai
A great, if slightly bizarre, location in a beautiful house near the train station in Isle Sur La Sorgue. Eat outside in the summer in the lush garden surrounded by wisteria, box plants, fountains, and large vases. It’s a restful and elegant setting.
Auberge Des Carrières
La Bergerie
Perched above the village of Bonnieux, La Bergerie is an unusual shabby industrial- chic bistro, linked to the much larger Domain De La Capelongue restaurant and hotel. The main restaurant has 2 Michelin stars, but our firm favourite is the bistro. You can sit out on the terrace, overlooking the spectacular swimming pool and grounds, enjoying good wine and tapas.
L’Estellan
L’Estellan has very good food and is less expensive than comparable places nearby. The menu is also more interesting. It’s a good place for vegetarians, with an emphasis on vegetables and fish. The ambience is Provencal, and the setting is very pleasant, both inside and out where there is a nice terrace.
La Bastide De Pierres
Excellent Italian restaurant in the heart of Gordes. Really good quality produce and ingredients. Lively atmosphere and great for people watching if you can get a place on the large terrace. Share a platter of charcuterie or try their amazing pasta with fresh basil pesto served in a copper pot.
L’Arôme
Authentic local cuisine using fresh ingredients and produce, and specialising in fish dishes. Lovely setting in a 14th century vaulted dining room. One of our favourites!
Le Carillon
Great semi-gastronomic menu that offers a new stylish twist on local ingredients. The welcome is friendly and professional, there is a decent wine list, and a variety of menus. Try and get a table outside on the terrace overlooking the square.
L’Artegal
Not a Gordes tourist-trap. Popular with locals and tourists alike. An authentic restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. Eat inside, or outside on the pretty terrace.
Le Petite Café
Café De La Poste
Goult is a must-visit village, and Café de la Poste, is an unassuming location for a delicious, care-free lunch under the canopy in the summer. The food is simple but the prices are very reasonable. There is a good mix of tourists and locals. It has recently started opening for dinner in the evening and you can also order pizza from Gino’s opposite while having a drink and then move over to consume your purchase once ready!
Du Pain Sur La Planche
Coustellet is not the prettiest of villages, but this is a great little eatery. Always open, with friendly service. Good food, ranging from simple open sandwiches to an always- lovely “plat du jour”. Good also for coffee and croissants on Sunday market morning.
L’Encas
Only open at lunchtime, but well situated just off the main square near Sotheby’s estate agency. Great location from which to people watch over a coffee on market day. Simple menu, but good value. They do a great burger and chips!
Bistrot La Terrasse
A simple, but popular little bistro that is only a short walk away. The menu is small, but usually includes a large salad, a meat dish, and omelettes. The terrace has a wonderful view of the valley below Joucas, including Le Mas de Rosemarie.
